first_imgThis is the walker authorities say was stolen by suspect Tony Whitehead.Tuscaloosa authorities are searching for a man who’s accused of stealing a child’s wheelchair and custom-built walker from a home on Rice Mine Road Oct. 10.The wheelchair and walker were left on the home’s porch. When the family returned, they found the items missing, among other things.Without the wheelchair, the child’s life is more complicated, and it’s loss has interfered with school attendance and has placed a sudden burden on the family.The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office compared video surveillance from multiple sources and determined the suspect is a man named Tony Whitehead. A warrant for property theft was obtained Wednesday.Authorities said they believe the child’s wheelchair and walker were sold by Whitehead at a scrapyard for $30. The family estimates their replacement will cost around $500.Whitehead has been booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail more than 30 times since 1995, a Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office news release said, and he’s been convicted of crimes including distribution of a controlled substance, possession of a forged instrument, assault, domestic violence, driving under the influence and resisting arrest.Whitehead was last seen driving a 1996 green Dodge Caravan with the tag number 63BS768.
